Indian hockey team has stormed into Semifinals defeating Great Britain by 4-2 in a penalty shootout at the Paris Olympics. The men in blue managed to dominate the show after playing one man short for 42 minutes, as Amit Rohidas was sent off with a red card. Earlier, during regular time, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Singh drew the first blood by converting a penalty corner in the 22nd minute. Britain’s Lee Mortoon then scored the equaliser after five minutes, which led the match to the tie breaker stage. In his last International appearance, Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh turned the saviour by making crucial saves. Indian players were remarkable during the shootout and emerged victorious with 4-2 scoreline. In the Semi Final, India will play the winner of the quarterfinal between Argentina and Germany.

However the success in hockey did not replicate in badminton as India’s ace shuttler Lakshya sen bowed down to Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen in the Semi Final. Despite strong showing Lakshya lost the first game 20-22. In the second one, he started brilliantly obtaining a lead of 6-0 but the World No. 2 came back to win the set with a score of 14-20. Nevertheless, Sen will play Malaysia’s Lee Zii jia for the Bronze Medal.

Earlier today, in boxing, Lovlina Borgohain lost her women’s 75kg quarter-final bout against China’s Li Qian. In Shooting, Vijayveer Sidhu and Anish Bhanwala finished the first stage of 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men’s qualification in the 5th and 7th place respectively.

In athletics, Parul Chaudhary finishes eighth in 3000 m steeplechase heats.
