More than 80 per cent polling has been reported in West Bengal for in the second phase of assembly elections. In this phase, polling took place for 56 constituencies spread over seven districts amid tight security.
Over 1.21 crore voters across 13,645 polling stations will decide the fate of 383 candidates in the second phase. 33 are women candidates. The districts where polling took place include Alipur-duar, Jalpai-guri, Darjeeling, Uttar Dinaj-pur, Dakshin Dinaj-pur, Malda and Birbhum.
Elaborate multi-tier security arrangements were made in these areas. Voting continued till 4 PM in left-wing extremism affected areas and in other parts, it concluded at 6 PM.
The remaining phases will be conducted on 21st, 25th, 30th April and 5th May.
Nearly 800 companies of the Central Police Force (CPF) were deployed during the second phase polls. 41 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal went to the polls in the first phase of the Assembly Elections on April 4 and April 11.
The first phase itself was divided into phase a and b. It saw high turnout with polling percentage of almost 80%. West Bengal is voting in 6 phases. The last phase will be on May 5.
