Over 60 percent of voting was recorded in Bihar, during the fifth and final phase of polling, which passed off peacefully in 57 constituencies spread over Nine districts today.

Bihar Chief Electoral officer Ajay Nayak said highest 67.27 percent voting was recorded in Katihar followed by Kishanganj 64.39, Araria 62 percent , Purnea 62.95, Supaul 58.6, darbhanga 58.27 percent, Madhepura 57.84 Madhubani 55.87 and Saharsa 50.78 percent.

The final turnout may go up as people standing in the queue will be allowed to vote even after 5 p.m.
After today’s voting, electoral fortune of 827 including 58 women have been sealed in EVms. Counting on votes will be on Sunday.

As whole the voting percentage is higher as compared to previous assembly as well as last year’s Lok Sabha elections in this region. In 2010 assembly polls, the turnout was 55.44 percent and in the last Lok Sabha elections, it was 59.41. The overall voting percentage in all 243 seats was the highest ever with 56.8 percent in any election in the state.

In New Delhi, Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha said, the polling was peaceful and there was an overwhelming response among the female voters who outnumbered male voters. He said in today’s polling, the female voter turnout stood at 63.6 per cent against 56.05 per cent for male voters. The Deputy Election Commissioner said entire election was also historic in the sense that only two polling stations witnessed re-polling.
