More than ten lakh refugees and migrants have reached Europe by sea this year. According to the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR), over eight lakh people arrived in Greece from nearby Turkey. Most of the others crossed the Mediterranean Sea from Libya to Italy.
UNHRC, on its website, said about 50 per cent of those who crossed the Mediterranean were from Syria. 21 per cent came from Afghanistan. It also said, the number of dead or missing persons at sea is 3,735.
