Opposition parties oppose introduction of One Nation One Election bills in Lok Sabha

Opposition parties including Congress, Samajwadi Party, NCP (SP) and CPI(M) have opposed the introduction of bills related to One Nation One Election in the Lok Sabha today.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said his party rejects the One Nation, One Election bill and they will oppose its introduction. He also demanded that bills should be referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). He said, Congress believes that these bills go against the basic structure of the Constitution.

Talking to media outside the Parliament, Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav echoed similar concerns, saying that these bills are unconstitutional and undermine the voices of States.

NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule called for the Joint Parliamentary Committee to scrutinize the Bills, stressing the need for elaborate discussions on the legislation with all parties. CPI (M) MP Jhon Brittas said that One Nation One Election Bill is against the federal principles and his party will strongly oppose it.
