CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has been sworn in as the 38th Prime Minister of Nepal.This will be Oli’s second stint as PM. Earlier, Oli had served as the 35th Prime Minister from Oct 11, 2015 to July 24, 2016.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Oli in Kathmandu Thursday evening.

This is the second time Mr. Oli has become the prime minister. He had served as prime minister from October 2015 to August 2016.

Mr. Lal Babu Pandit and Ms. Tham Maya Thapa, both from CPN (UML), have also been administered oath of office as ministers.

Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, outgoing Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and other dignitaries attended the oath taking ceremony.

Earlier in the day, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba resigned from the post of prime minister to pave the way for formation of a new government as per the people’s mandate in recent elections.

The Left Alliance of CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Center) had registered massive victory in the historic parliament and first ever provincial assembly election held on November 26 and December 7 last year.

In 275-member House of Representatives, the lower house of parliament, Left Alliance secured almost two third majority by winning 174 seats.

It had also secured an overwhelming majority in National Assembly, the upper house of the parliament with 39 out of 59 seats.

The formation of new government after historic elections is expected to begin a new era of political stability in the Himalayan nation.
