A 12-hour Odisha bandh called by the Congress and BJP over the suicide of Kunduli ‘gang rape’ victim affacted normal life across the state today.

Business establishments were closed, vehicles were off the road across the state in support of the bandh and hartal called by the two main opposition political parties to protest the tragic death of the Kunduli gang rape victim who committed suicide on Monday at her house in Musaguda village under Potangi police limit in Koraput district.

The state government as a precautionary measure closed all schools and colleges today for the safety and security of the students and announced postponement of examinations scheduled for today.

Train services were affected as the bandh supporters of both the political parties squatted on the railway tracks at various stations and shouted slogan against the government holding it responsible for the suicide of the gang rape victim.

Leaders of both Congress and the BJP and their workers staged road blockades in the capital city and other towns across the state by burning tyres and forming a human chain.
