Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced that short-term crop loans from cooperative banks and loans of up to Rs 2 lakh from nationalised and other banks will be waived.

Talking to media here today, Mr. Gehlot said that entire short-term crop loans from cooperative banks will be waived.

Along with this, loans of the defaulting farmers up to 2 lakh rupees from nationalised and other banks will also be waived. Mr. Gehlot said that this will put a burden of 8000 crore rupees on the exchequer.

Gehlot said Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s promise of loan waiver of farmers within ten days of the government’s formation is thus fulfilled.
