The notification for Goa Assembly elections was issued today. With this, the process of filing nomination papers has begun. Nominations will be accepted till 18th of this month. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place next day. There are 40 assembly constituencies in Goa.
Meanwhile, voters’ awareness programmes are on in remote villages and other far-flung areas of Goa. Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail, VVPAT, machines will be used for the first time along with EVMs. Our correspondent reports, VVPAT machine demonstrations have drew good response in various areas.
Hectic parleys are on by political parties to finalise the list of their candidates.
In Punjab, nomination filing process for the upcoming Assembly polls and Amritsar parliamentary constituency by-election also started today.
According to a spokesperson of the Chief Electoral Officer, nomination papers can be filed with the concerned returning officer for all assembly constituencies between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on any day other than a public holiday. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 21st January.
