The National Security Advisor to US President Donald Trump has said that North Korea needs to scrap not only nuclear arms, but also ballistic missiles, as well as biological and chemical weapons.
John Bolton made the remark on Sunday in an interview on the ABC TV program, “This Week”.
He said the denuclearization of North Korea is absolutely at the core of the upcoming US-North Korean summit. Bolton said there will be a range of things to discuss, but he indicated that the United States will not compromise with the North on this issue.
Bolton said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and the North’s entire regime need to make a strategic decision that they will be better off without weapons of mass destruction.
He was also asked about possible benefits provided to the North in return, including the lifting of sanctions.
Bolton said permanent and irreversible denuclearization has to happen “before the benefits start to flow.”
