North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called upon the United States to keep its side of the nuclear agreement reached at a US-North summit in June.

China’s state-run broadcaster CCTV reported that Kim made the remark when he met with third-highest-ranking Chinese government official, Li Zhanshu, on Sunday.

Li was visiting Pyongyang to attend the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the North’s foundation.

The broadcaster says Kim told Li that North Korea is upholding the agreement and has taken measures accordingly. The North shut down a nuclear test site earlier this year.

He said he hopes the United States will also take action and proceed with a political process for resolving the matter.

Li said China highly values North Korea’s efforts toward a denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. He said China hopes that the North and the US will implement the agreement reached between Kim and US President Donald Trump.

Li expressed China’s intention to play a constructive role in such efforts.

Analysts say Kim is seeking China’s understanding of his country’s stance on the nuclear issue.

They say he is also urging the Trump administration to take measures demanded by the North, including a formal declaration of the end of the Korean War- with input from NHK TV.
