The mountains and plains in North India are receiving very good rainfall and snowfall. South India is also witnessing widespread rainfall in Puducherry, Lakshadweep including Tamil Nadu and Kerala. This is the first time since the Southwest Monsoon 2020 withdrawal, rainfall is observed over a vast area of the country.

In Northern India – Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh as well as Delhi has received widespread rain for the last two-three days. Heavy rains were also recorded at many places in these states.

According to the Met Department, an active Western Disturbance lies as a middle and upper level cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and neighbourhood.

The department said, all these favorable meteorological features are likely to persist during the next 24 hours and continue to cause moderate to intense wet spells with thunderstorm and lightning over northwest India during the next two days. It said, the isolated hailstorm is very likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh.

Isolated snowfall is also likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladkah, Gilgit -Baltistan and Muzaffarabad, Himachal and Uttrakhand.

The IMD said, a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from 7th of January. As a result, no significant change in minimum temperatures is likely during next two to three days over Northwest India and gradually fall by two to four degrees Celsius over some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh Delhi and West Rajasthan during subsequent two days.
