IN29_SUGAR_277662fGovernment has said there is no shortage of sugar for domestic consumption in the country. In series of tweets, Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today said, Centre has imposed stock limits on sugar mills for the next two months to keep prices under control during the festival season.

He said the stock limit will be imposed for the month of September and October. He said stock limit for September has been kept at 21 per cent whereas for the month of October it will be at 8 per cent of the total sugar availability during the current marketing year. Last month, government had increased import duty on sugar to 50 per cent, up from 40 per cent to restrict cheap inward shipments and maintain domestic prices.
