Flood situation in Bihar and Assam continues to be grim and alarming. In Bihar, over 96 lakh people across 14 districts are reeling under the impact of flood. The state government has pressed into service 50 rescue teams comprising columns of Army, NDRF, SDRF in the affected districts.

The teams include over two thousand trained personnel and over three hundred boats for evacuation to the nearest relief centres. Casualities due to flood related incidents has risen to 106. Breaching of river embankments in Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, East and West Champaran has further aggravated the flood situation.

FLOOD IN BIHAR

In Assam, flood related death toll has risen to 40. Nearly 34 lakh people are affected in the second wave of flood of the year. Rescue and relief operations are underway by various agencies including NDRF and SDRF in several districts. Four thousand people were evacuated to safer places yesterday.

Helicopters have been pressed into services to provide food items. Meanwhile, flood situation at Kaziranga national park has slightly improved as water level receded. Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma who visited the park yesterday informed that 143 animals have drowned to death including 13 rhinos.

The minister announced to set up a high level committee to ensure the safety related issues of inhabitants of the park.
