The External Affairs Ministry has said it has not received any communication from the UAE government about the case related to Agusta Westland chopper deal middleman Christian Michel in a Dubai court.
MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar yesterday said in New Delhi that unless the Ministry receives an official intimation from the UAE government in the matter, he will not be in a position to react on the matter.
Some media reports had said a Dubai court ordered Michel’s extradition to India, but sources had later indicated there was no such specific court order. The Enforcement Directorate in its charge sheet filed against Michel in June 2016, had alleged he received about 225 crore rupees from Agusta Westland.
In 2014, India had scrapped the contract with Finmeccanica’s British subsidiary Agusta Westland for supplying 12 AW-101 VVIP choppers to the IAF over the alleged breach of contractual obligations and charges of paying kickbacks for securing the deal.
