Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari on Monday, virtually, laid foundation stones for National Highway (NH) projects and dedicated two other projects worth 1450 crore rupees in Assam.

While addressing the event, the Union Minister announced the four-laning of 135 km long NH-15 from Baihata Chariali, Kamrup to Dolabari in Sonitpur district. Mr. Gadkari said, with the instruction from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his Ministry is working on a priority basis to develop road infrastructure in Assam and other North Eastern States. He also informed that within this Fiscal Year, about 1.5 lakh crore rupees of road infrastructure will be developed in Assam alone.

The Union Minister informed that his Ministry has decided to use bamboo crash barriers on the National Highways. He urged the Assam government to initiate a Bamboo crash barrier-making industry as various types of bamboo are available in the State. It will also create ample job opportunities for the local people, he added. The Government in March, this year, installed the world’s first 200-metre-long bamboo crash barrier on a highway connecting Chandrapur and Yavatmal districts in Maharashtra as a pilot project, the Minister informed.

Mr. Gadkari also announced a 6-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra river connecting, Narengi in Guwahati to Kuruwa.

Today, Union Minister Gadkari dedicated to the nation a four-lanning of the section from Nagaon Bypass to Teliagaon of National Highway 127 and Teliagaon to Rangagara of the same National Highway. He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of 4 lanes of Mangaldai Bypass on NH-15 and the Construction of 4 lanes from Doboka to Parakhuwa on NH-29.

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma presided over the event and said that with these projects connectivity will improve in the State. Dilip Saikia, MP, Mangaldai and Haren Sing Bey, MP and several other dignitaries were present during the event.
