The Home Minister assured that all aspect of this blast will be probed thoroughly. “Government unequivocally condemns the terrorist attack that took place today. The investigation of the case will be entrusted to the National Investigative Agency (NIA),” Chidambaram told Lok Sabha.
“The blast outside the Delhi High Court is a terrorist blast. It is a high-intensity blast. Till the last report came, at least nine people have died and over 47 have sustained serious injuries. All the injured have been taken to RML and other hospitals for treatment and are being taken care of”, Chidambaram said.
He said that the objective of the blast was to strike fear in our minds and destablise the country. However, we are clear that there is no cause that will justify the terrorist act.”
Chidambaram told the Lok Sabha that Delhi was a target for terrorists as it was the national capital. “Accordingly, Delhi had been put on high security alert,” he said in a brief statement.
Chidambaram, while reiterating that terrorist organizations will not be allowed to succeed in their nefarious designs, informed, “Teams of NIA, NSG and other intelligence agencies are the blast site at the moment and taking stock of the situation.”
However, the Home Minister said that it was not possible at this stage to identify the terrorists who exploded a bomb outside Delhi High Court Wednesday killing nine people.
Chidambaram also appealed to the nation to remain calm and united and said, “A mutli-pronged probe has been launched into today’s blast and the guilty will not be spared..”
Soon after he made his brief statement in the Lok Sabha, Home Minister went straight to the Delhi High Court blast site to take stock of the situation personally.
The high-intensity blast outside the Delhi High Court’s Gate No-5 took place at 10.17 am this morning.
Army was deployed immediately outside the High Court premises and a team of National Security Guards also reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
According to home minister nine people have been killed and 47 have been injured in blast.
Meanwhile, a high alert has also been sounded in the entire city and security of all vital installations, including Parliament, has been tightened.
