A three-member National Investigation Agency, NIA team is in Dhaka as part of efforts to curb militancy and terrorism. The team led by NIA Inspector General Sanjib Kumar Singh arrived on Sunday and will be in Dhaka for 4 days. Bangladesh Detective Branch Spokesperson Monirul Islam told reporters that the team would discuss with Bangladeshi law enforcers the arrest of 3 absconding Jama-atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) activists accused of the Burdwan blast case, as well as other leaders of the banned militant outfit.
Besides militant activities, security of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, human trafficking and cattle-smuggling are likely to be discussed during the meetings with different agencies. Sources said, the NIA team and Bangladesh intelligence officials had a meeting yesterday and more meetings will continue over the next two days. 4 JMB leaders have been chargesheeted by the NIA for their involvement in the Burdwan case as on March 30, 2015.
Another NIA delegation had visited Dhaka in November 2014 followed by a visit of top Bangladeshi law enforcement and intelligence agencies to Delhi. Both countries have agreed to share intelligence and support each other in curbing terrorism and militancy.
