Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today said that the new Parliament building will be ready by November next year. Talking to media persons, Mr Birla said that he is continuously reviewing the progress of construction of the work of the new building with the concerned agencies. He assured new Parliament building will have all the requisite facilities in place.

Speaking on the working of the Winter Session of Lok Sabha which was adjourned sine die today, Mr. Om Birla observed that in 12 hours 26 minutes long discussion on the COVID-19 situation, a total of 99 MPs participated on this important issue. Similarly, 61 members participated in the debate on climate change.

He informed that the productivity of Lok Sabha in this Winter Session was approximately 82 per cent. However, he said, the Session was disrupted for 18 hours and 48 minutes by Opposition members on a variety of issues, including price rise and Lakhimpur Kheri incident.

The Speaker said over 94 percent of the Members are using digital platforms in filing their questions. He hoped that by next session it would be 100 percent. He also said, newly launched mobile application- ‘LS Member App’ allows the Members to have detailed business scheduled and the public to track the performance of their elected representatives in parliament session.
