Ms Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has been sworn in as the country’s first female president of Namibia.The 72-year-old leader won the presidential election in November last year with 58 percent of the vote. Nandi-Ndaitwah succeeds Nangolo Mbumba, who served as interim president following the death of President Hage Geingob in February 2024. After Geingob’s passing, she was promoted to vice president before assuming the presidency.
Nandi-Ndaitwah has been a lawmaker since 1990 and previously served as Namibia’s Foreign Minister before being appointed vice president.
