A delegation of United Madhesi Democratic Front UMDF today meet JD(U) President Sharad Yadav in the national capital and discussed Nepal’s political situation and economic blockade on the India-Nepal border. This is the first time the top leaders of the UMDF are visiting New Delhi together since the beginning of the blockade more than three months ago. The delegation includes Mahant Thakur, chairman of Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party, Upendra Yadav of the Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum, Rajendra Mahato of the Sadbhavna Party.

The delegation members are also expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will hold meetings with a cross section of Indian parliamentarians. Later talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Rajendra Mahato of the Sadbhavna Party said the prevailing political deadlock in Nepal is internal problem and India is being wrongly blamed for the supply blockade of gas and oil.

Since the promulgation of the Constitution in Nepal in September, the Madhesi population has been staging sit-ins on the border stopping flow of goods as they believe the country’s new Constitution discriminates against them, denying them equal standing with other Nepalis.
