Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ will be on an official visit to India from the 31st of May to the 03rd of June 2023 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This will be the first bilateral visit abroad by the Prime Minister of Nepal after assuming office in December 2022. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation.

During the visit, the Prime Minister of Nepal will call on the President and Vice-President. In addition to the official engagements, the Prime Minister of Nepal will also be visiting Ujjain and Indore as part of his itinerary.

AIR correspondent reports that the visit Of Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to India is the fourth visit as Prime Minister of Nepal, the first being in the year 2008 while the 2nd and third visit to India was during his 2016 Prime Ministership.

The two Prime Ministers will hold extensive talks to discuss the diverse areas of the bilateral partnership between India and Nepal. Power sector cooperation, strengthening financial connectivity between two neighbours, and new projects such as the Raxaul-Kathmandu Rail link and extension of the Motihari-Amlekhgunj Petroleum Pipeline and oil pipeline from Siliguri to Jhapa may find space in the high-level discussion.

India has been pursuing several large infrastructure projects in Nepal such as the Arun-III hydropower project, Gorakhpur-Butwal 400KW cross border line, Integrated Check Post in Nepalgunj-Rupaidiha and at Bhairahawa-Sunauli, and Railway projects Jayanagar-Bijalpura-Bardibas and Jogbani-Biratnagar rail link, these are the projects that may be discussed.

The visit continues the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between India and Nepal in furtherance of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. The bilateral relations between the two countries have significantly strengthened in the last few years in all areas of cooperation. This visit underscores the importance given by both sides in adding further momentum to the bilateral partnership.
