A total of 16 people have died in incidents of natural disasters in different parts of Nepal in the last 24 hours.
According to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, at least 33 people have died in floods and landslides across the western part of the country in the past week.
Local media reported that the worst of the monsoon rain hit Karnali province in the northwest, where thousands of residents were evacuated. Hundreds of homes have also been damaged in the avalanches and flooding. At least 22 people are still missing across the province and several were injured.
Nepal Government has dispatched aid to the region on helicopters.
Meanwhile, the UN’s humanitarian agencies said, they were distributing food and medicine to the worst affected communities in western Nepal.
Nepal is nearing the end of its monsoon season, which typically begins in June and ends in October.
