Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command is in a state of high alert along the coast of Mumbai after five suspicious persons were spotted around Naval Station Karanja near Uran. While search and combing operations have been on since early morning, no person has been located or apprehended till now.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s Additional Chief Secretary (Home) KP Bakshi has asked Maharashtra Police to submit a detailed report by tomorrow. Security has also been beefed up at sensitive locations like the Gateway of India, Raj Bhawan, Bombay High oil rig, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and other major establishments near the sea.
A Mumbai Police statement has said that officials of National Security Guard, Anti Terrorism Squad, Mumbai Crime Branch and Coast Guard are involved in search operation. Colaba Police has also sent out an alert to fishermen asking them to report any suspicious looking people or movement of boats. Locals in Uran have been asked to remain alert but at the same time refrain from believing and spreading any rumours.
