T R ZeliangNagaland, Chief Minister TR Zeliang has proved his majority in the Assembly. 47 members voted in favour of Mr. Zeliang while 11 voted against. A Special Session of Nagaland Legislative Assembly was convened today for Mr. Zeliang to prove his majority on the floor of the Assembly.

The State Governor P.B. Acharya appointed Zeliang as the Chief Minister dismissing Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu government after he failed to turn up for a floor test on 19th of this month. Zeliang is being appointed as Chief Minister for the second time under the third term of the NPF-led Democratic Alliance government.

Before the Speaker Dr. Imtiwabang Aier put the motion to vote, discussion was held wherein legislators supporting Dr. Liezietsu termed the dismissal of sitting Chief Minister as unconstitutional.

MLA and former Speaker Chotishu Sazo, terming the crisis as an internal party affair said that it could have been discussed within the NPF party by trashing out personal egos and settle the differences in the greater interest and betterment of Naga society.

The legislators supporting Dr. Shurhozelie alleged that all the rules enshrined in the Constitution of India and also the Rule of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the State Assembly have been violated in the dismissal of Dr Liezietsu and appointment of Zeliang as the Chief Minister.

Chief Minister TR Zeliang responding to the members reiterated the claim that he had the majority support of elected representatives in the House with 47 MLAs while Dr Liezietsu had been reduced to minority with just 11.

Zeliang also maintained that since Dr Liezietsu had lost the confidence of the House, he should have gone for floor test but he refused leading to dismissal of his government by the Governor.

Subsequently, after voting by the members the Assembly Speaker Imtiwapang Aier pronounced the results with TR Zeliang winning the motion of confidence by 47 votes and adjourned the house sine die.
