Rohingya Rakhine state

WEB DESK

Myanmar’s government has taken foreign diplomats on a tour of Rohingya villages in the country’s western state of Rakhine yesterday. Officials from the United Nations and foreign countries flew over an area where fighting took place and saw expanses of charred trees and houses. They also visited an area where a village had been burned down and met residents.

Myanmar Government officials said that Rohingya militants set fire to the village but didn’t give evidence to support their claim. But the residents said that security forces and Buddhists were responsible for the incident.

This is the first time since fighting broke out between Rohingya militants and government troops in late August that the country has allowed foreign representatives into the region. More than 500,000 Rohingya minority Muslims are said to have fled to neighboring Bangladesh.
