Munde refuted reports that he was offered a Cabinet berth to switch to the Congress. He also flatly denied reports that he was actively in touch with top Maharashtra Congress leaders and was considering switching over.

“I have apprised the party high command of my feelings. But I am very much in the BJP,” said Gopinath Munde.

Munde’s change of heart came after a meeting with Sushma Swaraj – someone who has been fighting her own battle against Munde’s enemy’s number one, BJP President Nitin Gadkari.

“He is a senior leader. He has expressed his feelings at the right platform,” said Sushma Swaraj.

For the past 24 hours, there was intense speculation over whether Munde was trying to strike a hard bargain with the Congress. On Tuesday night, Munde and Maharasthra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan landed in Delhi almost simultaneously. But by Wednesday afternoon, the BJP president had almost issued an ultimatum of sorts to Munde – stop talking to the Congress or face the consequences.
