rakesh maryaIn another twist to Lalitgate case, Mumbai Police commissioner Rakesh Maria on Saturday revealed that he had met Modi in London in July 2014. Talking to a TV Channel, Maria said he met Lalit Modi while he was in London for a conference. The meeting lasted for 12-15 minutes, Maria said.

“Lalit Modi along with his lawyers came to meet me in London. Modi told me that his life was in danger. I told him clearly that I can not do anything here in London and he will have to come to Mumbai and file an official complaint about it,” Maria said.
“I came back to Mumbai, made a confidential report regarding my meeting with Lalit Modi and what he told me and submitted the same to the then state home minister RR Patil. This is on record,” the Mumbai top cop added.

Maria’s statement comes a day after Scotland Yard, London’s metropolitan police authority, stated that it has no knowledge of any threat to Lalit Modi, who has been living in London on a self-imposed exile since 2010.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje already embroiled in Lalitgate for helping him obtain travel papers from the British government.

Congress has been demanding Vasundhara Raje’s immediate resignation along with that of Sushma Swaraj, saying they have no right to continue in office after helping the former IPL chairman who is facing money laundering and other charges.
