Unidentified criminals today shot dead newly elected mukhia Poonam Devi in Nalanda district of Bihar. She was mukhia of Koilama panchayat of the district.
The incident occurred near Bahadurpur village when she was returning from Harnaut to her village Kolawa on motorcycle. Criminals stopped her motorcycle and beat the man who was driving the bike and asked him to flee away.
After that criminal fired indiscriminately at mukhia which led her instant death. People of the areas staged protest and raised slogans against the government.
No arrest has been made in this regard as yet. Police sources said enmity among rivals during Panchayat election was the reason behind the murder.
