Prime Minister Narendra Modi; Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Chairperson of Public Accounts Committee Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury led parliamentarians in paying floral tributes at the portraits of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the Central Hall of Parliament House on their Birth Anniversaries, today.

Among others who paid tributes were several former Members of Parliament and other dignitaries. Secretaries-General of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Mr Utpal Kumar Singh and Mr Desh Deepak Verma, respectively, also paid tributes.

On this occasion, Prime Minister released a book titled ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Parliament- A commemorative volume’ on Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, brought out by the Lok Sabha Secretariat. The book highlights Mr Vajpayee’s ideas and views on a wide range of important national and international issues. It brings together his vision and profound contributions made by him, as an outstanding parliamentarian, in strengthening democratic institutions and nation building through his select speeches in Parliament. It also contains some rare photographs from Atal ji’s public life. The Book also contains messages from the President of India and the Prime Minister of India. It also has a Foreword by the Vice-President of India, Preface by the Lok Sabha Speaker, and an Introduction by Former Lok Sabha Speaker, Smt. Sumitra Mahajan.

Booklets containing the profiles of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya and Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, brought out in Hindi and English by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, were presented to the dignitaries.

The Portraits of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya and Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee were unveiled in the Central Hall of Parliament House on 19 December 1957 and 12 February, 2019 respectively, in recognition of their outstanding services to the nation. The President of India awarded the nation’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, on Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya posthumously and Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 24 December 2014.

Earlier, Lok Sabha Speaker, Mr Om Birla paid floral tributes to Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Atal Samadhi Sthal in New Delhi today.
