Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Friday appealed agitating farmers to end their ongoing stir and come to the table for talks. Talking to media in Bhopal, he said that anti-social elements have entered in the farmers’ agitation. He clarified that the anti-social elements will be dealt with sternly.

Mr. Chouhan said that there will be no compromise with security. He announced that he will sit on an indefinite fast at Bhopal’s BHEL Dushhera ground for restoring peace Saturday. Mr. Chouhan said that he took unprecedented steps for development of the state and welfare of the people. He will leave no stone unturned to solve the problems of the farmers.

On the other hand the state Congress said that it will demand a special session of the state legislative assembly on the farmers agitation.

Leader of opposition in the assembly Ajay Singh said that the Congress doesn’t believe in violence and allegations of the Congress involvement in violence are false. He said that the government and the BJP saw the Congress’s hand in the agitation only after Mandsour firing.

State Congress president Arun Yadav demanded that the false cases registered against farmers should be withdrawn. AIR correspondent reports that the situation is by and large peaceful in the state.

Curfew was relaxed for eight hours in Mandsaur district today. No untoward incident was reported during this period from any part of the district. People came in large number to buy essential commodities. Normalcy has returned in most of the farmer’s agitation affected areas in the state barring some isolated incidents.

Farmers staged chakka-jam on Bhopal-Indore highway in Phanda area of Bhopal district today. violent mob pelted stones on security forces. Police lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the mob. Prohibitory orders were imposed in Aagar Malwa district today.
