Parliament session from April 25 to complete financial business

Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned sine die today. Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha had 20 sittings each in this session.

Rajya Sabha passed 14 government bills of various Ministries and held an animated debate while considering and passing the Constitution 122nd (Amendment) Bill 2014 which paves the way for rolling out the Goods and Services Tax bill from 2017.

Lok Sabha saw the disposal of important financial, legislative and other business. During the session, 14 bills were introduced. In all 13 bills were passed.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anant Kumar described the monsoon session of Parliament as highly successful. Addressing the media in New Delhi, he said the Lok Sabha registered a productivity of almost 110 per cent and the Rajya Sabha over 99 per cent.

Mr Anant Kumar said both the Houses cleared 13 legislations. But the landmark was the passage of the Goods and Services Tax, GST, Bill which was unanimously approved by the two Houses. He attributed this success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi whose initiative succeeded in evolving an all-party consensus.

 

Lok Sabha appeals all sections of society to help in restoring normalcy in Kashmir

The Lok Sabha today appealed to all sections of society to work for the early restoration of normalcy and harmony in the Kashmir valley. In a unanimous resolution adopted by it on the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the House called for restoring confidence in people, in general and youth in particular in the valley.

The resolution expressed serious concern over prolonged curfew, violence and loss of lives there. It also said the House has a firm view that there cannot be any compromise on India’s unity, integrity and national security.
