Hungarian Prime Minister and Fidesz leader Viktor Orbán has accepted his party’s defeat in the recently held parliamentary elections. With this, his 16 years in power come to an end. With 80 per cent of the votes counted, Péter Magyar is set to be the country’s new prime minister as his party is on the way to a massive majority in parliament. During the election campaign, Mr Magyar had promised closer ties to the European Union (EU) and an anti-corruption agenda.
