The Election Commission will send a high-level team to Mizoram to hold further discussions with state government officials and leaders of the NGO Coordination Committee on the current stand-off in the state. For the last twodays, the NGO coordination committee, led by YMA, was protesting against theremoval of the Principal Secretary (Home) Lalnunmawia Chuaungo and demandingremoval of Chief Electoral Officer S.B Shashank. Sources said the committee hasdecided this evening to call off the protest for the time being.

The team will be headed by Deputy Chief Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain. In astatement, the Commission said, it has accepted the broad contours of theresolution passed by the Committee after deliberations with the delegation of thepoll body. The Commission also expressed its serious concerns on the violencein Kolasib district during protests against the CEO.

Yesterday,a three-member Election Commission team had discussed over the demands andpoints of the NGOs in Aizawl and the outcome was communicated to the poll paneltoday.

The Assembly elections in Mizoram will be held in a single phase on the 28th ofthis month.
