Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi alleged that India’s first and only woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was ignored at the Vijay Diwas function in Delhi.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi alleged that former PM Indira Gandhi, who played a pivotal role in the 1971 war, was ignored at the Vijay Diwas function held in Delhi to commemorate India’s thumping victory over Pakistan.

Our first and only woman Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi is being left out of the misogynist BJP government’s Vijay Diwas celebrations. This, on the 50th anniversary of the day that she led India to victory and liberated Bangladesh…@narendramodi ji, women don’t believe your platitudes. Your patronising attitude is unacceptable. It’s about time you started giving women their due,” she tweeted.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, too, attacked the government on the issue. “Today, a function was held in Delhi to commemorate the Bangladesh war. However, there was no mention of [former PM] Indira Gandhi in that function. The name of the woman who took 32 bullets for this country was not there in the invitation because this government is afraid of the truth,” Rahul Gandhi said in Dehradun.
