Faithful Catholics of Meghalaya joined the rest of the world in observing All Souls’ Day today at the Catholic cemetery, Laitumkhrah, Shillong. As a mark of remembrance, relatives and friends offered prayers and decorated the tombs of their near and dear ones with candles and flowers. Special Masses were observed at the cemeteries for the departed souls. Special Mass in the cemetery was also observed. Through prayer, intercession, almsgiving, and visits to cemeteries, Catholics commemorate the poor souls in purgatory and gain their indulgences.
Meanwhile, in West Jaintia Hills District, All Souls’ Day was also observed by Christian believers of St. Theresa Cathedral Church, Jowai Parish at the Catholic Cemetery. The Holy Eucharistic Mass, remembering the departed souls was also held at the Catholic cemetery.
