Government is committed to bring businessman Vijay Mallya back to India to face the justice. It said the legal experts and agencies are being consulted in this regard.

Replying to a media query in New Delhi today, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has written to the Ministry seeking Mallya’s deportation in the backdrop of non bailable warrant issued against him. He said both the steps deportation and revocation of his passport are underway.

Diplomatic passport of Mallya has already been suspended and he has been asked to explain why it should not be revoked. Meanwhile, Mallya has responded to MEA’s notice through his lawyer.

The businessman is facing legal proceedings for alleged default of loans worth over nine thousand crore rupees from various banks. The liquor barron has been defying Enforcement Directorate summons.
