Amid the ongoing violence in Manipur, the residence of Union Minister R K Ranjan at Kongba in Imphal was torched by a mob on Thursday night. The Union Minister was not at home at the time of the incident.
“I am currently in Kerala for official work. Thankfully, nobody got injured last night at my Imphal home. The miscreants came with petrol bombs and damage has been done to the ground floor and first floor of my home,” Ranjan, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, told a news agency.
“It is very sad to see what is happening in my home state. I will still continue to appeal for peace. Those indulging in this kind of violence are absolutely inhuman,” he added.
Chief minister N Biren Singh on Thursday said the government is holding discussions at multiple levels and assured that action will be taken against those involved in violence. In a fresh violence case reported on Wednesday in Manipur, nine people were killed and 10 others were injured.
“As per our commitment, we are contacting everyone, we are discussing at various levels. The governor has also constituted a peace committee and consultation with peace committee members will start. I hope that with the support of the people of the state, we will achieve peace at the earliest,” Singh said at a press conference.

The Union Minister and his family, however, were out of Manipur when a mob attacked his house. Singh told television channels that he is in Kerala for official work. The attack took place at around 11 pm.
The incident took place a day after the official residence of Manipur’s only woman minister Nemcha Kipgen was attacked by a mob in Imphal East. Residences of at least 8 MLAs and Ministers have been attacked since the violence broke out in Manipur on May 3.
