najmaManipur Governor Najma Heptulla today invited BJP Legislature Party leader N Biren Singh to form the next government in the state. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 1 PM Wednesday. Mr Biren Singh was unanimously elected leader of the 21-member BJP legislature party yesterday. This will be the first BJP-led government in the state which will be sworn-in tomorrow when Mr Biren Singh will take oath as the new Chief Minister of Manipur.

Speaking to media persons at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal this afternoon, Dr. Najma Heptulla said, she invited the BJP-led group to form a new government in Manipur as she felt that the group has more than the requisite number to command majority in the state legislature.

Regarding the number of Ministers to be sworn-in along with the Chief Minister, Dr. Heptulla said, Raj Bhavan has not received the final list yet. She further said that the BJP-led government may prove its majority on the floor of the House on 22nd or 23rd of this month.

The BJP has claimed support of 32 MLAs in the 60-member assembly. A BJP delegation had met the Governor on Sunday with 21 party MLAs besides four of NPP, and one legislator each of
LJP, TMC and Congress. The BJP has also claimed the support of four members of NPF.

Congress, which has 28 MLAs, led the tally. Okram Ibobi Singh, its Chief Minister for three consecutive terms, had resigned and staked claim to form the government, but numbers were on BJP’s side.
