Devendra FadnavisMaharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that a special session of the state legislature will be convened to pass a law or a resolution regarding reservation for Maratha community.

Speaking to media persons here after chairing an all-party meeting, Mr Fadnavis said all political parties pledged their support for a quota in jobs for the community.

He said the special session of the House will be called after Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission submits its report to the state government in four months.

The commission, headed by Justice MG Gaikwad, is carrying out a survey to ascertain the economic and social backwardness prevailing among the Marathas, a land-owning community that constitutes 30 per cent of the state’s population.

The Chief Minister also announced the withdrawal of certain cases against the members of the community, seeking a 16-per cent reservation in government jobs and education.
