Maharashtra government today passed the bill to amend the anti-adulteration law to make it more stringent, prescribing life imprisonment and heavy penalty to curb food and milk adulteration.

The bill was tabled in the legislative assembly and it was passed subsequently. Due to the amendment, the adulteration offence will be cognizable and non-bailable. At the same time, there was frequent disruption and protest by the opposition in the house. Due to these disruptions, the house was finally adjourned for the day.
