Prime Minister has greeted the people of Maharashtra and Gujarat

Maharashtra Day and Gujarat Day being celebrated today. On this day in 1960, the two western states attained statehood after the erstwhile Bombay State was divided on linguistic lines.
In Mumbai, the celebrations are held at the Shivaji Park in central Mumbai. Maharashtra Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao will take the salute at the ceremonial parade, comprising members of the state reserve police force, Brihanmumbai Commando Force, home guards, civil defence, fire brigade and city police.
It is 56th foundation day of Maharashtra state. The Maharashtra day commemorates the carving out of Maharashtra state after the division of state of Bombay on 1st May 1960.
The Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti formed by several thinkers, writers and leaders spearheaded a movement for the formation of separate Marathi-speaking state out of the then bi-lingual Bombay state. Thus leading to birth of Maharashtra state. One hundred and five people lost their lives during this period of agitation.
Prime Minister,Narendra Modi has greeted the people of Maharashtra and Gujarat, on their statehood day.
“On Maharashtra Day, I greet the people of Maharashtra and wish the state the very best in scaling new heights of progress. Jai Maharashtra!
On Gujarat’s statehood day my greetings to the people of Gujarat. I hope the state continues to progress and contribute to India’s growth”, the Prime Minister said.
