The death toll in Bhiwandi building collapse has risen to 10 in Maharashtra. The casualties include seven children. Eleven people including a four year old boy were rescued.
However, 25 persons are still feared to be trapped in the debris. The building, situated at Patel compound of Narpoli near Dhamankar Naka in Bhiwandi in Thane district near Mumbai collapsed early this morning.
The building has 40 flats with150 occupants. 3 fire vehicles of Bhiwandi Fire Station, staff of Thane Disaster Management Department, Thane Disaster Response Force (15 personnel) and a contingent of National Disaster Response Force (30 personnel) are conducting rescue operations.
President and Prime Minister have expressed anguish at the loss of lives in a building collapse at Bhiwandi in Maharashtra President Ram Nath Kovind said, the loss of lives in the building collapse at Bhiwandi, Maharashtra is quite distressing. He said, in this hour of grief, his thoughts and prayers are with the accident victims. Mr Kovind wished speedy recovery of the injured. He said, local authorities are coordinating rescue and relief efforts.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, he is saddened by the building collapse in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. He expressed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for a quick recovery of the injured. Mr Modi said, rescue operations are underway and all possible assistance is being provided to the affected.
