Seven bodies have been recovered so far from river Savitri by NDRF jawans as search and rescue operation continued in full swing in the bridge collapse incident at Mahad town of Raigad district in Maharashtra.
The rescue operation was in full swing today along 150 kilometres long stretch of river and sea coast where this river meets Arabian see. It was observed that some of the bodies were flown up to 120 kilometres from the site of mishap.
NDRF team has not found any bus or car in river bed till now. Today also it was not possible for them to search these vehicles because of the speed of the flow of the water. Hence they decided to concentrate on searching for bodies.
The search operation was on till 6:30 in the evening. After that it was stopped but tonight they are going to keep strict vigil on both the banks of the river. Rescue operation will start again tomorrow morning.
Earlier, today Union Ministers Anant Geete and Hansraj Ahir visited the site of the mishap. They took stock of the situation and assured all essential help from central authorities.
At present alongwith the NDRF Navy and Coast Guard Jawans are camping at Mahad for rescue work. Tomorrow morning they will again start their mission with the help of Choppers, Boats and Heavy duty cranes.
