Electioneering is gaining momentum gradually in Madhya Pradesh as both the major political parties have declared a large number of candidates in their first lists.
Congress on Sunday released the second list of 16 candidates for assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. This comes a day after the party on Saturday released a list of 155 candidates for the 230-member MP Assembly.
The BJP, which is in power in the state since 2003, had released its first list of 177 candidates Friday. Other regional parties are also declaring their candidates. Therefore, the filing of nomination papers may also speed up from Monday. Polling for 230 seats of Madhya Pradesh Assembly will be held on the 28th of this month. 59 nominations have, so far, been filed.
Meanwhile, Election Commission also has stepped up its action against the violations of model code of conduct. AIR correspondent reports, Official sources have informed that 27 thousand 671 non-bailable warrants have been served from October 6 to November 2 since the model code of conduct has come into effect in the state to ensure law and order.
Total 2 lakh 51 thousand firearms have been deposited in the police stations during this period. Under the property defacement, more than 15 lakh 66 thousand cases have been registered. In addition to this, 9 thousand 812 cases of misuse of vehicles have been also registered during this period.
