The Lucknow Police has formed six teams to solve the murder case Vishva Hindu Mahasabha leader Ranjit Bachchan. The murder took place in broad daylight on Sunday. CCTV footage of the murder suspect has also been released and the police have announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for any information about the suspect’s whereabouts.
Ranjit Bachchan was taking a stroll in Hazratganj area on Sunday morning when some unidentified assailants opened fire at him, killing him on the spot. The Mahasabha leader was shot in the head.
The incident took place outside the Globe Park in Hazratganj area in Uttar Pradesh. Four cops including a sub-inspector were suspended for dereliction of duty. In the firing, Ranjit Bachchan’s brother, Aditya also sustained a bullet injury on his hand.
The police recorded the statement of Ranjeet Bachachan’s wife, Aditya and two other people at the Hazratganj police station.
Meanwhile, submitting a memorandum to the district administration, the Vishwa Hindu Mahasabha has demanded financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh, a government accommodation, job and security for Ranjeet Bachchan’s wife.
Ranjeet was earlier associated with the Samajwadi Party (SP) and also participated in cycle rallies in the past.
Reacting to the incident, the Samajwadi Party blamed the Yogi Adityanath government for the deteriorating law and order situation and asked him to resign immediately.
Issuing a statement, Joint CP of Lucknow Police Naveen Arora said, “The attacker had covered himself in a shawl and was on foot. He also snatched Ranjit’s mobile phone. The police are examining the CCTV footage. Multiple teams have been formed to crack the case.”
“There was also a dispute between Ranjit and his wife. An FIR was also registered in Gorakhpur. We are investigating every angle and the backgrounds of the people associated with the deceased are being checked. The Crime Branch is also assisting the local police in the investigation,” Arora said.
