The Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training (BPST), Lok Sabha Secretariat is organizing an Orientation Programme for Newly-Elected Members of the 17th Lok Sabha in the Main Committee Room, Parliament House Annexe, New Delhi from 3rd to 4th July and 9th to 10th July 2019.

 In the Inaugural function to be held on 3rd July 2019, Lok Sabha Speaker Mr. Om Birla; Union Minister of Defence Mr. Rajnath Singh; Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines Mr. Pralhad Joshi and Leader, Indian National Congress Mr. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury will address the Newly-Elected Members.  Honorary Advisor (BPST) Mr. Raghunandan Sharma will be present on the occasion.  Lok Sabha Secretary-General Smt. Snehlata Shrivastava will present the Vote of Thanks.

On day two i.e. 4 July 2019, Mr. Amit Shah, Union Minister of Home Affairs will speak on “How to be an Effective Parliamentarian?”.  Mr. Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises will talk on the subject “Parliamentary Questions and Procedural Devices to Raise Matters in the House”.

On day three i.e. 9 July 2019, Mr. Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Information & Broadcasting will address the Members on the subject “Jan Sampark Prabhari”.  Mr. Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha will speak on the subject “Legislative Process – Bills (including Private Members’ Bill’s) Resolutions/Motions”. Later, Mr. Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Railways, Commerce & Industry will share his views on the subject “Budgetary Process” and Mr. Bhartruhari Mahtab, MP will talk on the subject “Parliamentary Committees (including Financial Committees)”.

On the last day i.e. 10 July 2019, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister of Law & Justice, Electronics & Information Technology and Communication; will share his views on “How to Make Legislation”. Mr. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, MP and Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, MP will address the Members on the subjects “Parliamentary Privileges & Ethics”.  Later, Mr. Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Culture and Tourism will speak on the subject “Etiquettes and Ethics”. The Joint Secretaries concerned of the Lok Sabha Secretariat will also apprise the Members on – (i) E-Parliament-Members Portal; (ii) Salaries, Allowances, Pensions-Member Services (Housing, Transport, Medical facilities etc.); and (iii) Parliament Research, Library & Members’ Reference Service.
