Parliament of India

Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day as Opposition continues protests over demonetisation issue. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan refused to entertain the adjournment motion moved by the opposition. Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu made a statement in Lok Sabha on the tragic accident.

He said immediate assistance for relief and rescue has been provided to passengers.

Rajya Sabha was adjourned repeatedly with opposition continuing the uproar over the demonitisation issue.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the Opposition is not ready for debate and is trying new tactics everyday to disrupt the proceedings. Both the houses have been adjourned till 2 PM.

Earlier both Houses of Parliament observed a minute’s silence to condole the deaths in the tragic rail accident.

Opposition parties have also demanded that parliament condole the death of those who they allege have died because of the cash crunch after demonetisation.

“The 70 people who have died standing in queues at banks also deserve a tribute…they were also Indians, hard-working citizens,” said the Congress’ Ghulam Nabi Azad after the Rajya Sabha mourned the death of 130 people in a train accident on Sunday.
