RS proceedings disrupted on Ayodhya and DDCA issues

The Lok Sabha today adjourned sine die. When the House met for the day, Congress members continued to disrupt the proceedings over the alleged irregularities in Delhi and District Cricket Association, DDCA. They demanded the resignation of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. However, amid the uproar created by the opposition members, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan allowed the question hour. The Congress members in the meantime staged a walk out for a brief period but they returned soon.

Intervening amidst the opposition’s protest, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu appealed to the opposition not to disrupt the proceedings and take part in the debate as it was the last day of the session. Mr Naidu hit out at the Congress for not performing the duty of a constructive opposition. The Minister said, the opposition behaved in an intolerant manner.

Later, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House sine die requesting the members to participate in the proceedings as much as they can. She informed the House that a total of 20 sittings were held during the winter session. A total of 13 bills were passed.

The Speaker has expunged her own vested interest remark made yesterday after Congress objects to it. Earlier, Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarujun Kharge had demanded to expunge Speaker’s remarks.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned up to 1 p.m. today amidst continuous uproar created by Congress members. As the House met for the day, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien asked for laying of papers. As soon as the zero hour began Mr K C Tyagi of JDU raised the issue of the construction of a temple in Ayodhya. He cited newspaper reports saying that preparations have begun for its construction.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi denied any such move. He affirmed that the matter is sub-judice and the government will honour the verdict. But the Congress and Samajwadi Party members surged from their seats shouting slogans. When the turmoil continued, the Chair adjourned the House for ten minutes. After the House reassembled, there was no let-up and the din continued.

The Congress members came in the well demanding the resignation of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for his alleged involvement in irregularities of Delhi and District Cricket Association, DDCA. They kept shouting slogans till noon. Meanwhile, Mr. Naqvi urged the Chair to allow the passage of the pending Bills but the pandemonium persisted. When Chairman Hamid Ansari took up the Question Hour, the scene was no better and he adjourned the House till 1 p.m.
