Leaders of the Group of Seven nations have begun a summit in Italy. Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni is chairing the meeting in Taormina on the southern Italian island of Sicily.

The leaders will discuss political issues as well as foreign policy and security during a luncheon and a work session to follow. They are expected to discuss how to counter terrorism and violent extremism, North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs, as well as Syria and Ukraine.

The meeting comes days after several children were among 22 people killed in a concert bomb attack in Manchester, northwest England.

British Prime Minister Theresa May is to lead a discussion on terrorism and issue a call for G7 countries to put more pressure on internet companies to ensure extremist content is quickly taken off line and notified to authorities.

For Trump, the talks will be the final leg of his first presidential foray overseas.

The first day of the meeting is due to end with a session on the global economy, trade and climate change. The leaders are scheduled to release a joint statement tomorrow summarizing their 2-day discussions.
